Is Instinct AI safe for work?

Mihir Ahuja 7 minute read

Instinct is a legitimate, heavily funded company, but its own terms say the service is for your personal use only, so it is not built or licensed for company work. Whether it is safe depends on what you connect. Instinct can read the accounts you link and take actions for you, including purchases. It uses your data to train AI models unless you opt out, except Google Workspace data and items in its Vault. For work, the safe default is to keep company accounts, client data, and payment methods away from it unless your employer has approved it.

Is Instinct AI legit?

Yes, in the sense that it is a real company with a real product. The privacy policy names the operator as Spear Street Technology, Inc. d/b/a Instinct. Fortune reports that founder Noah Shinn started the company in 2025, that it raised $250 million in August, and that a $1 billion Series C in late September valued it at $10 billion. The Verge reports that Shinn was an early employee at Sierra.

Access is still limited. The Verge says you need an invitation from a current user or approval from the waitlist, and Instinct's terms mention a welcome text "when your spot becomes available." Fortune reports that some users have sold invitations on eBay. Buying an invite from a stranger is a poor start for a tool that will hold your email and payment details. Use the official waitlist.

Is Instinct AI safe to connect to your accounts?

Instinct is an autonomous agent, and its documents are direct about what that means. The privacy policy says agent features "may present additional privacy and security considerations because these features can perform tasks or take actions independently on your behalf." The terms say outputs can be wrong, actions "may not always be reversible," and Instinct is not responsible for unintended actions.

The terms also put the safeguards on you. Instinct may add confirmation steps for some actions, but it makes no promise they will prevent mistakes. You are responsible for configuring permissions and sharing settings on each connected service and for monitoring what the agent does. You must not use it to act without "meaningful human review" where that would be unsafe or inappropriate.

None of this is unusual for an agent that can use a phone and computer the way you do. It does mean the right question is "safe with which accounts?" For a personal calendar and grocery orders, many people decide the trade-off is fine. For a company inbox, it is a different decision.

Can you use Instinct for work?

Not as a company tool. Three clauses in the terms matter here:

  • Personal use only. The license is for your personal use. There is no team plan or admin console in the documents.
  • One person per account. You may not let anyone else use your account, so colleagues cannot share it.
  • You need authority over what you connect. By connecting a service, you represent that you have the rights and permissions to let Instinct use that data and act there. For a work Gmail or a client's Drive, that permission usually belongs to your employer or the client, not you.

We compared Instinct with Meta Muse and OpenAI dots on this question in Can you use Instinct, Muse or OpenAI dots for work? This post covers safety. That one covers team use.

What should you keep away from Instinct at work?

If you use Instinct for personal tasks and also have a job, keep these separate:

  • Your work email, calendar, and company Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 account.
  • Client files, contracts, and anything covered by an NDA.
  • Company cards and expense accounts. Instinct's actions can include purchases, and the terms say purchases are made by you.
  • Shared logins or credentials for company tools.
  • Regulated data: health, financial, or HR records about other people.

Also turn off model training in settings if you do not want your materials used, and request deletion of indexed data separately if you disconnect an account.

Is Instinct AI free?

For now, for invited users. The Verge quotes Shinn: "Instinct is free for invite-only users. Our intent is to keep it as affordable as possible." The terms reserve the right to charge fees for certain features, so expect that to change. We have not found a published price list on instinct.com.

What should a team use instead?

If the goal is team work in Slack, such as status updates, weekly reports, and handoffs, use a shared agent built and licensed for that. Shared agents take requests from anyone in an invited channel, and the company controls which accounts they connect to.

Geniusly reads authorized Gmail, Google Drive, Google Sheets, Slack, GitHub, Linear, and Google Ads, then prepares a brief, report, or handoff for a person to review. Connected apps are read-only by default, except Google Sheets edits you explicitly ask for, and Slack messages beyond its reply are posted only after your approval. Anyone in an invited channel can ask it for work, it can run a task once, daily, or weekly, and it has a Free plan. The public security page does not claim compliance certifications, so review it against your own requirements.

Frequently asked questions

Is Instinct AI safe?

It is a real, funded company, but it is an autonomous agent that can read connected accounts and take actions, including purchases, that its terms say may not be reversible. Is Instinct AI legit?

Yes. Instinct is operated by Spear Street Technology, Inc. Fortune reported a $1 billion Series C at a $10 billion valuation in September 2026. Access is by invitation or waitlist. Use the official waitlist rather than buying an invite.

Does Instinct train on my data?

By default, Instinct may use your materials to train AI models. You can opt out in settings, though content flagged for safety review may still be used. Data received from Google Workspace and items in the Vault are not used for training.

Can my company use Instinct for the team?

Instinct's terms grant a license for personal use only and do not allow anyone else to use your account. There is no team plan or admin console in its documents. Use a shared team agent for company work.

Does disconnecting an account delete my data from Instinct?

Not automatically. The privacy policy says disconnecting an integration does not delete data already collected from it. Request deletion of indexed data separately, or delete your account.
