Weekly client reports, prepared in Slack

The weekly client report is the one task every account lead knows is coming and nobody has time for. The numbers sit in Google Ads and a Sheets tracker, the decisions are buried in an email thread, and the blockers are in Linear. Geniusly brings those sources together in Slack and prepares the report, so your Friday starts with a draft, not a blank doc.

What a useful weekly client report contains

A report clients actually read answers three questions:

  1. What moved? Progress since last week, and the numbers that changed, not every number you track.
  2. Why does it matter? The context behind the change: a launch, a paused campaign, a late approval.
  3. What happens next? Blockers, owners and the decision you need from the client.

Geniusly is set up to prepare exactly that shape. You tell it the reporting window, the sources and the format, and it pulls the pieces together.

How it works

1. Connect the sources behind the report

Connect the accounts the report depends on: - Google Sheets for trackers, deliverable lists and working data - Google Ads for campaign data for performance summaries - Gmail for client conversations, commitments and approvals - Linear for issues, blockers and project status - Google Drive for briefs, scopes and client guidelines

Start with only the source your first report needs. You can connect more later.

2. Ask for the report in Slack

Be specific about the window, the sources and what counts as done:

"@Geniusly Prepare Acme's weekly client report for Mon Oct 12 to Sun Oct 18. Use the Acme tracker in Sheets, the Acme Google Ads account and this week's email thread. Include progress, campaign performance vs last week, blockers with owners, and the one decision we need from the client. Flag anything the sources don't confirm."

3. Review it before it goes anywhere

Read the prepared report in Slack, check the figures against the sources and ask for changes in the same conversation. Then you decide what to share with the client and how.

An example structure

Illustrative format, not real client data.

Acme: weekly update, Oct 12–18 - Progress: Homepage copy approved. Landing page build 80% complete per the tracker. - Performance: Campaign summary from the connected Google Ads account, compared with the previous week. - Blockers: Final images still waiting on the client (owner: client team). - Decision needed: Confirm the launch date. - Not confirmed in the sources: The revised budget mentioned on the call.

Why do it in Slack?

Most agency teams already coordinate in Slack. Asking there means no new dashboard to log in to and no export-and-paste step. The draft sits next to the conversation about it, and your team can pick it up from the same place. If you're away from your desk, ask what changed over WhatsApp, iMessage or SMS. The full report stays in Slack.

What to check before sending

AI-prepared reports should always get a human once-over: - Do the dates match the reporting window you asked for? - Do the figures match the source account or sheet? - Is anything marked as decided actually decided? - Is there anything you'd rather tell the client in person?

Frequently asked questions

Can Geniusly write weekly client reports automatically?

Geniusly prepares the report when you ask in Slack, using the sources you connect. You can also ask it to schedule the task once, daily or weekly, and it replies in the same conversation when the task runs. It never sends a report to a client on its own. You review it and decide what to share.

Which data sources can a weekly report use?

Today: Gmail, Google Drive, Google Sheets, Slack, GitHub, Linear and Google Ads. Stripe, Jira, Salesforce, HubSpot and Confluence are coming soon.

Can it report on Google Ads performance?

Yes. Connect Google Ads, and Geniusly can use campaign data to prepare a performance summary you can review.

Is this different from a reporting dashboard?

Yes. A dashboard shows the numbers. Geniusly prepares the written update: what moved, why, and what needs a decision, drawn from your numbers and your project context together.

Does Geniusly post the report to my client's channel?

No. Geniusly prepares the report for your review in Slack. You choose what to share and where.
