Weekly client report template

A good weekly client report isn't a data dump. It tells the client what moved, why it matters and what you need from them, in a format they can read in two minutes. Below is a free template you can copy, a filled example, and tips for writing one quickly.

What to include in a weekly client report

Section What goes in it Keep it to
1. Summary The one or two sentences the client should remember 2 sentences
2. Wins this week Work completed, approvals received, launches 3–5 bullets
3. Key metrics The few numbers that matter, with last week for comparison 3–5 metrics
4. What changed and why The context behind the numbers 2–4 bullets
5. Blockers and risks What's stuck, who owns it, and the impact if it stays stuck Each with an owner
6. Decisions needed from you Specific asks, each with a date 1–3 asks
7. Next week What you'll deliver next 3–5 bullets

Rules that make it work: - Lead with movement, not inventory. Report what changed, not every metric you track. - Connect each number to an event. "CPC fell 12% after we paused the broad-match ad group" beats a bare "CPC: $1.84". - End with decisions. A report that asks for nothing gets skimmed. - Same structure every week. Clients learn where to look.

Example: a filled weekly client report

This is a fictional example. "Fernbrook Studio" and "Lumen Coffee" aren't real companies, and the numbers are made up for illustration.

Subject: Lumen Coffee: weekly update, Oct 12–18

Summary: The new homepage is approved and the build is on track for Oct 30. Paid search held steady while we tested new headlines.

Wins this week - Homepage copy approved by Maya on Oct 14 - Product page templates built (3 of 4) - New search ad headlines launched Oct 15

Key metrics (vs last week) - Paid search clicks: 1,240 (vs 1,180) - Cost per click: $1.62 (vs $1.71) - Newsletter signups: 86 (vs 91)

What changed and why - Lower CPC after the new headlines went live mid-week - A slight dip in signups, likely because the homepage banner was paused during the build

Blockers - Final product photography is still pending (owner: Lumen team). Without it, the launch moves past Oct 30.

Decisions needed - Confirm the launch date (Oct 30 or Nov 6) by Wed Oct 21

Next week - Finish the 4th product template - QA on mobile - Draft the launch email for your review

Tips for writing it faster

  1. Keep a running doc or tracker during the week, so Friday is just editing.
  2. Pull metrics from the same date window every week, for example Monday to Sunday.
  3. Write the "decisions needed" section first. It's the part that moves the project.
  4. Send at the same time every week. Consistency is part of the value.

Frequently asked questions

What should a weekly client report include?

A short summary, the week's wins, 3–5 key metrics compared with last week, what changed and why, blockers with owners, decisions needed from the client, and next week's plan.

How long should a weekly client report be?

Short enough to read in about two minutes. If it needs more, link to the detail rather than pasting it in.

Should I send a weekly report by email or in Slack?

Wherever your client actually reads. Many agencies email it and post a summary in a shared Slack channel. The template works in both.

What's the difference between a weekly and a monthly client report?

The weekly report covers progress and decisions. The monthly report steps back to results against goals and the plan for next month. See the monthly client report template.

Can AI write my weekly client report?

An AI assistant can draft it from your connected tools. Geniusly prepares it in Slack for your review. Always check the numbers before you send it.
